Featured Critter: PEACHES

Breed: Australian Shepherd - Pit Bull Terrier Mix  -  Gender: Female  -  Age: 2 yrs. 4 mo. (est)  -  Milo ID: 24661

PEACHES *FOSTER UPDATE* 3/5/17- "So far she's doing really well. She is a true sweetheart and has adjusted very well to our home. We've been working hard on training and she's become very good at walking on leash and is improving consistently on her other commands (primarily "sit", "stay" and "leave it"). She's had an accident or two in the house, but those were primarily in the first couple days and with a regular schedule she has no problem with house training. Peaches shows lots of affection (snuggling and licking if we let her) and is very eager to please. She also has been great with strangers we meet, allowing everyone to say hello and pet her.

The one area she has a lot of room for improvement is her socialization with other dogs. We're trying to help by exposing her to other dogs at a distance and rewarding her when her tenseness subsides, but it may take some time before she's comfortable saying hello to other dogs as we pass in the street.

We think she'd be a great pet for someone, particularly a family that has a yard where she can roam a bit without other dogs around, though hopefully we'll get to a point soon when she can handle the dog park as well."

Peaches is a friendly, quiet girl. She can be shy at first but loves people attention and gives kisses and tries to sit in laps. She is very dog friendly and can use some training. Will know more soon. Due to the shape of her head we think she is actually part Pitty - whatever all her make-up she is a sweetheart of a dog!

Featured Critter: KAWEAH

Breed: Treeing Walker Coonhound   -  Gender: Female  -  Age: 6 yrs. 1 mo. (est)  -  Milo ID: 23975

KAWEAH Calling all hound enthusiasts! Kaweah is a beautiful, loving and gentle girl who gets along well with cats! She rides well in the car, is crate/house trained and non destructive. She is a treat motivated, well behaved and loving girl looking for someone to love her and take her for hikes!

Kaweah is pronounced ka-we-ah meaning 'Raven cry", although we call her Weah for short which she responds very well too. She picks up on routines quickly and will run from the back yard straight through our kennel building to the front, turn a corner and then hop into her crate, sit and look up at you smiling waiting for her cookie and to be told hat a good girl she is.

It does not seem as though she was properly socialized with other dogs when she was younger, and is a sensitive girl who can get a little fearful/overwhelmed with loud city noises or with rambunctious young children. For this reason she would be just perfectly suited for country bumkin' kind of life as an only dog, where she could relax at home with her loved ones and go for walks in the woods sniffing out the squirrels and bunnies.(no horses for our girl) Kaweah has been described by a foster as "loyal, loving and affectionate" She is more connected, submissive and eager to please than many hounds and is going to make a great addition to the right rural home!

Please send questionnaires to sanctuary@milofoundation.org as she is now waiting for her forever family with us here in Willits.
