Otis is a fantastic Great Pyr/German Shepherd mix who was adopted from the Milo Foundation as a puppy. His adopters have recently decided he may do better in a different home environment. For information on Otis, or to schedule a meeting please email his people directly at: mbiehle@comcast.net **Adopter Notes** > We have come to the conclusion recently that we need to surrender our 18 month old dog, Otis. Otis is a big, goofy, sweet German Shepherd/Pyrenees mix, who loves his family - humans, other dogs and (most of the time) cat. He has had a lot of training, and is good at all the normal obedience exercises. Currently we are working on long leash training with a remote, building on his solid work with sit, stay, down stay, wait, etc. True to his breeds, Otis is very territorial and can be overly protective of the other (small) dogs and his home. He has also shown leash reactivity, mostly in our neighborhood, although he plays well at our local dog park, at doggie day care, and with other dogs with our dog walker. Unfortunately, we find our lifestyle is unable to accommodate his needs. We really love Otis, but think he would be better suited to more experienced owners, with a more regulated lifestyle. > > Otis has a bite history. One when a friend walked into the house immediately after ringing the doorbell before I could get the dogs to follow their door protocol and the front door was accidentally unlocked. The second time the leash was not as secure in my hand as I had thought as I was asking our three dogs to wait before getting into the back of the car. A dog walked by across the street from his and Otis bolted across the street barking at the dog. He bit the dog’s ear and nicked the owner in the process before I was able to get control of him. > > When Otis is inside the home, and when he is far away from the house, he is a sweet, affectionate and loyal dog. He is adorable with my two young teenage kids, sweet with the two little dogs in the house, and tries to tolerate the cat unless our chihuahua decides to give chase. We have met with two behaviorists -one in San Francisco, and most recently with Trish King locally. Both say he is a really great dog with some genetic tendencies that make him challenging for our particular circumstances - dogs, neighborhood, property, etc. He is eager to please when training, listens well, and is food motivated. He is crate trained and sleeps in his crate at night without any trouble. He is ridiculously affectionate and sweet with us. Oh and he loves to swim!!! Especially after a little gentle coaxing. We (and our behaviorist whom we hired to work with him) think Otis would be better in a home with an experienced owner, another dog closer to his size that he can play with and learn from to ease his anxiety. Some place where he has some room to play and isn’t a dense urban or even dense suburban environment. We have seen him be successful in this kind of situation when he is with our dog boarder. > > We have had Otis since he was a puppy at 7 weeks and we fostered 3 of his siblings as well at that time for Milo Foundation. We are in love with this dog. We hope you can find a wonderful home for him - perhaps one where his territorial nature can be better regulated or is otherwise more welcome.

6/28/18 * Foster Note * Meet the lovely Tika. At 35 pounds, a big 6 month old puppy whose appearance favors her doberman parent. She is as soft as velvet with a looong tail and very intelligent. She is house trained, knows sit, stay, down and her recall off leash is good. She is fostered with 3 dogs of all sizes and does well. She has lived with children and had an adoptive family that returned her when an abnormal heart rhythm was discovered on routine exam. She has no symptoms but is on medication and the cause is under investigation. Living with a puppy is always an adventure and Tika is no different. *Foster Notes* "Violet is an awesome little puppy! Sweet, cuddly, cute as can be! She would love a home with kids to play with and adventures to explore. She is very fond of my larger dog and would probably enjoy a playmate. She will be smaller, perhaps 50lbs. A total charmer!"
