Featured Critter: PONO

Breed: Australian Cattle Dog - Shepherd Mix  -  Gender: Male
Age: 2 yrs. 9 mo. (est), Milo ID: 26185
Current Location: Foster

PONO Pono is such an amazing dog! He is a sweet and cuddly 2,5 years old Australian Cattle Dog-German Shepherd mix. He is very smart and is learning new things quickly. He wants to be a good dog and responds very well to verbal cues. Just a short “no” and he stops his behavior and is looking at you! He is energetic but mellow inside the house and really loves to cuddle. He is very well behaved and haven’t chewed anything in the house. He is running free during the day and sleeps in his crate at night. He is house-trained, walks nice on a leash and off-leash, can sit, lie down, wait for his meal, and is coming when called. He can be left alone in his crate for 3-4 hours.

He loves car rides and is always so happy to jump in and go for hikes. On walks he sticks with you and doesn’t show prey drive. He is dog friendly and loves to play with other dogs. He lived with his best friend (Doberman mix) for over a year at the Milo sanctuary. Unfortunately his buddy passed away recently, so he really needs somebody who takes care of him.

He is very affectionate and loves to hang out with me and my husband. When outside (even in the yard) he is friendly to people but inside the house he prefers not to be around guests. Dog-savvy people will know how to guide him to be a better host. He showed tendency to guard his food with other dogs in the shelter but he is ok with my dog at home. I train them next to each other and giving treats without a problem. He has been in my house just for a week and made such an amazing progress! This sweetheart can’t wait to be adopted!

Pono is a sweet and athletic dog. He is very smart, very energetic! He will make an amazing addition to any home. Ideally with an active household that has large dog experience.

Featured Critter: CRUNCHWRAP

Breed: Australian Cattle Dog Mix  -  Gender: Male
Age: 2 yrs. 4 mo., Milo ID: 29539
Current Location: Foster

CRUNCHWRAP Crunchwrap is a sweetheart of a dog. He knows lots of tricks, heels on walks, and loves to cuddle. Experienced dog adopters only who can work with him on his training. He needs to be in a home that does not have children or other pets. He needs training to work through his fear issues. He is making progress with reactions to cats, mailmen, and large dogs. But he does not do well in large groups of people and he has some mild separation anxiety.

Crunchwrap likes cuddling, practicing his tricks, and long walks to the park. He has a heart of gold, generally very well behaved and so lovable! Crunchwrap just had a full checkup and found to be in excellent health! He is house-trained as well.

Crunchwrap needs to go to a home in a mellow, low-key area with experienced dog owners and no children due to his fear.

Featured Critter: ANGEL

Breed: Chihuahua Mix  -  Gender: Female
Age: 13 yrs. 11 mo., Milo ID: 28336
Current Location: Foster

ANGEL CHI Angel was surrendered to us after her people lost their home in the Camp Fire. Unfortunately, she's a bit shell-shocked from all she's experienced and is still trying to adjust to her new world.

Angel is the perfect little lap companion once she gets comfortable. She's nervous when meeting new people and can sometimes be snappy if someone tries to pick her up before she's ready, but it's a short-lived habit that quickly fades to reveal the little love bug hiding underneath. Once Angel bonds with you, she's yours forever. She'll spend her days dozing on your lap and her nights burrowing under the covers to keep you extra warm.

Angel is house-trained and good on leash/in the car. She is cat- and dog-friendly and also good with kids. She loves walks, trips to the park, and will even play fetch!

If you think you're the right family for Angel, come meet her today!

Featured Critter: DAISY DOTTS

Breed: Australian Cattle Dog - Basset Hound Mix  -  Gender: Female
Age: 8 yrs. 8 mo. (est), Milo ID: 26585
Current Location: Sanctuary

DAISY DOTTS 7/9/18 Foster notes: "Daisy is a very loving and gentle dog! I didn’t see any signs of aggression whatsoever, however she is very shy and timid. From what I understand, Daisy was surrendered to Milo and since being at the shelter she’s been having a really hard time and her anxiety has gotten worse. After a few days with us, Daisy’s personality shined! Happy wags in the morning and cuddles all night. All Daisy needs from someone is a little patience to help build her confidence.

She is excellent in her kennel - when overly nervous it’s her safe space. She will go in without hesitation when asked. She isn’t difficult to walk, but there have been a couple times where she’s been spooked and began to pull. This behavior was easily corrected. Very quiet! Not a single bark for the time we had her. Other than a few nervous shakes at first, she had no issues in the car or while bathing her.

We do not have dogs or cats living with us so I cannot say whether she’s good with other animals. During walks, she seemed to ignore the dogs we pass by and no reaction when approached by another dog.

I think the ideal place for Daisy would be a home with no children in a quiet location. Overall such a great dog!"

*****

*Surrender Notes* 6/8/18 "Daisy can be very sweet and affectionate, especially with me, and she behaves herself when I am with her.

Daisy has separation anxiety but if I need to leave the house, she does very well when left in her pen. She willingly goes in, settles and it is like a safe spot for her.

I have trained the dogs to eat in their own spots and to wait patiently for the food, which keeps any food aggression from happening.

Daisy can have some leash aggression. She walks well on the leash and when she walks on my side by herself, she responds to my corrections, especially if I catch her before she escalates.

Ideally, Daisy would be an only pet. She gets along with my other dog, but she can be territorial with her special places or with toys. She is not well socialized with children and is NOT good with cats. I recommend a home with someone who works from home and does not have children or cats."
