TILLIE and MILLIE - MILLIE

   Breed: Wirehaired Terrier Mix
   Gender: Female
Age: 7 yrs. 4 mo.  Birthday: 1/2013 (est)
Weight: Small (less than 30 pounds)
   Milo ID: 30307
   Current Location: Milo Point Richmond
Foster feedback: "Meet Millie & Tillie!

The cutest little daughter and mom duo! After a week’s fostering, they have really come into their own, just two good little girls wanting to be pet, have a warm lap…basically, just to be loved. They love their walks, naps, breakfast/dinner time and they are just getting prettier every day!

They are good by themselves but won’t turn down a chance to snuggle with you! They like like their crate, bed (or, your bed if you let them!) and would probably love access to a secure outside garden or deck to facilitate taking ‘care of business’ or to sun themselves.

Tillie is potty trained to go outside, Millie will get there but is reliable on pee pads – a consistent home environment and treats (of course!) will get her going outside. Tillie will bark a tiny little bit initially but has also shown that in a stable environment, this also will be a thing of the past.....cartoons (or walking away) will do the trick!"

------------------

Millie has the cutest scruffy tan coat, big black eyes and expressive pointy ears. **Millie says our coats have been groomed and we look much better than our pictures!** She and Tillie are a little vocal when they first meet you but after they get to know you it’s all tail wagging and wiggly butt. Millie doesn’t soil her kennel which may be an indication that she’s have potty training. They are both great with other dogs their size.

Millie and Tillie will love to hang with you watching movies, going for a leisurely walk, and getting lots of tummy rubs.

$300 individually, $350 for the pair together!

   Name: BRODY
BRODY AUSSIE SHEP
More Photos
Breed: Brittany - Australian Shepherd Mix
   Gender: Male
Age: 1 yr. 1 mo.  Birthday: 4/2019 (est)
   Weight: Medium (30 - 60 pounds)
   Milo ID: 30244
   Current Location: Milo Point Richmond
Brody is a bit shy and needs an experienced adult household. He shows great potential but will need a predictable environment, lots of exercise and love! Brody LOVES to play fetch and LOVES treats. He would need a home with a high fence as he has shown us he can climb a 6ft fence here at Milo.

Brody takes time to warm up to you, so a household that can be patient with him would be ideal. No small children for this young man - your children should be 15 years and older. He can be wary of strangers, so with a slow introduction he should be okay! He is dog friendly, but needs to be supervised with other dogs as he can be a little too excited. He would benefit from some more training and socialization.

Foster notes: Brody is a super sweet and smart dog who gets compliments from everyone he meets. He needs lots of exercise and love, and he is very loving in return. Ideally he'd have access to a big open space to play fetch, would be very active for a couple hours a day, and would cuddle up with you on the sofa each night. He appreciates a good routine, and will be ok with the routine that works for you once it's established, so long as he gets enough of that playtime. If he gets bored he will persistently ask for your attention.

He hasn't been trained much, but knows how to sit and learns very quickly. He is housetrained already. He loves treats but doesn't beg too much for food. He doesn't bark much. He is very athletic and can climb a 6' fence depending on the type. A taller fence, adding rollers to the top of a fence, or a very long tie-down cable that gives him just the right amount of movement, could all be good ways to let him outside without worrying about fence-jumping.

It takes Brody time to become totally comfortable with you. It might be a month or so before he reveals all of his instincts and behaviors. He guards the home once he feels comfortable within it, and may take a little time to get warmed up to strangers who try to enter. Though he will bark at them, he's never shown signs of aggression, and is very sweet once he knows they're friends.

Brody has a very high prey drive. He gets really fixated on squirrels, cats, and small dogs. This is something you'll want to learn to manage through training. He should not be in a house with cats or small animals, and it is not safe to take him to off-leash dog parks because his instinctive response to small dogs is unpredictable. He's not aggressive in general but he will stand up for himself if another dog attacks him. He plays incredibly well with medium and large sized dogs, and is in heaven when he gets to run and chase with them. He would do incredibly well in a situation where he had one or more active dog friends he could see every day.

Brody hasn't had enough exposure to very small children to know for sure how he would do with them, but he often seems scared or uncertain of them when passing on the street. When he gets very excited during play he might want to use his teeth a bit. No more than most dogs, but this is something to be aware of if you have small children. He has done very well with adults and kids over the age of 8 or so.

$450 adoption fee.

   Breed: Siberian Husky
   Gender: Female
Age: 2 yrs. 5 mo.  Birthday: 12/2017 (est)
   Weight: Medium (30 - 60 pounds)
   Milo ID: 29980
   Current Location: Milo Point Richmond
Foster Notes:
We have had Mimi and Judo for about 3 weeks and so far, they have been wonderful. We were a little hesitant about fostering two dogs that were big but having them around seems easier than when we foster one dog.

These two are the sweetest dogs you’ll ever meet.

All they want to do is cuddle and just want to be shown love and affection. Both dogs are extremely intelligent and know how to sit. Mimi knows how to lay down and shake as well. We have a cat as well and they are interested in them but also scared. We would recommend though that whomever adopts Mimi and Judo have a backyard even if not massive. Just something for them to trot around and play in.

No other dogs in the home.

MIMI and JUDO would love to continue to live together - somewhere with Husky savvy, loving folks with the time and the fencing to keep them safe and contained, loved and exercised. A happy, social, and affectionate husky pair of rascals! They are both friendly, laid-back and affectionate. They're great even in chaotic situations with lots of people around-- they maintain their calm and look to you for guidance. They jump up occasionally but are very responsive to correction. They are adorable and ready for a home! Adoption fee $800 for the pair.

   Name: MAZZY
MAZZY

Breed: Labrador Retriever - American Staffordshire Terrier Mix
   Gender: Male
Age: 4 yrs. 3 mo.  Birthday: 2/2016 (est)
   Weight: Medium (30 - 60 pounds)
   Milo ID: 28938
   Current Location: Milo Point Richmond
Status: On Hold or Not Available at this time
Meet Mazzy! He is a sweet boy who can take some time to trust you, but once he does, he is very lovable. No kids in the home, as he is shy with strangers.

Foster notes:

Mazzy is a very lovable and loving dog with a lot of potential. Given his probable lack of socialization and fear of strangers, we think he would be best in an adult-only household, and with someone who understands and will work with a dog who shows some signs of fear/aggression. He needs someone with a lot of patience who is willing to put in the time and energy to teach him rules and boundaries. He improved substantially over just a couple of weeks with regular training and exercise, but he needs firm guidance, consistency, and love.

What he loves: He loves squeaky toys and hard chew toys, but essentially, he loves any and all food. He loves cuddling and sleeping in the bed and preventing you from making the bed. He loves laying by your feet while you work, and loves long hikes outside. If he has a chance to be off-leash, he has the goofiest zoomies. He loves to roll in cow pies (beware!) and he loves sticking his head out of the car windows.

What he knows: He knows “sit,” “paw,” a little bit of “stay” and “wait.” He is pretty good on the leash unless he is fearful or trying to chase a critter. He has not stolen any food off the table, but he likely would if given the opportunity.

Other dogs: He loves playing with other dogs, but if the other dog shows any signs of aggression or defensiveness, he will likely reciprocate and attack. So he would probably do best hanging out with a familiar dog friend who isn’t very reactive. He is also reactive on the leash, so narrow trails and hallways are areas to pay attention to.

Strangers: He used to try to run away from every stranger with his tail between his legs, and he continues to be fearful, especially of larger groups of people. But he has gotten much better and will now stand quietly (albeit a bit warily) and let people pass on hiking trails. He is also terrified of bicycles and skateboards, but has gotten better with them as well. He just hasn’t gotten enough socialization in his life, but he will continue to improve.

Potty training: He marked in our house several times (no pooping accidents), but it is likely due to previous dog pee smells. In a different home, he did not have a single peeing incident. He is probably not 100%, but seems like he gets the general idea.

Other notes: Even though he is scared of men more than women, he tends to get used to them as long as they are good with dogs. He definitely loved both of us (one female, one male) and slept in our bed every night. Unfortunately, he did show some fear/aggression towards one male roommate, and the situation worsened with time. Thus, we recommend that all household members are fairly experienced with dogs and/or meet him before taking him home.

He would do really well in a home with its own large yard where he can play with toys, but he definitely needs plenty of exercise. He really enjoys long hikes, and we have taken him to Wildcat Canyon many times. He will chase wildlife if you’re not careful! He also seems to become quite energetic and hyper in the evening time – perhaps because he doesn’t enjoy daytime neighborhood walks if lots of people are out and about. He had a tendency to randomly pick things, like pillows or tables, and start chewing, but if he has plenty of toys he'll be fine!

   Name: TRA LA LA
TRA LA LA

   Breed: Domestic Short Hair
   Color:  Black solid
   Gender: Female
Age: 9 yrs. 1 mo.  Birthday: 4/2011 (est)
   Milo ID: 28502
   Current Location: Milo Point Richmond
"Tra La La is a one-of-a-kind unique cat with the softest fur you will find. She's named Tra La La because of the cute chirping sounds she makes when you pet her. She loves getting pets from her human and will pet herself with your hand or foot if you hold it out for her. She can be quite vocal and makes the cutest sounds when interacting with you or when walking around the house.

Don't let her age fool you, she runs around with the vigor and playfulness of a young cat and loves chasing little toys. That being said, she is also quite independent and will give you space when you don't have time to interact with her (she isn't needy). Come and adopt this lovely, quirky cat and you will fall in love with her as the Milo Staff and her foster families have."

Tra is a gorgeous kitty with beguiling amber eyes and a silky soft, lustrous ebony coat. Her most endearing features are her melodic, sing song voice and her sugar sweet, loving demeanor. She’s a talented conversationalist who’ll respond when you talk to her, which is both endearing and hilarious.

She’s a light-hearted cat with an upbeat personality who loves to be interactive with her human, but she’s never pushy or demanding. Although she enjoys being outside now and then, Tra would be content to be an indoor only kitty. When indoors she loves to sit on a cat tree, watching the world go by. She’s a bit of a loner cat but doesn’t mind having other cats around as long as they are respectful and give her space. She’s a very calm kitty, un-flappable, who’d love to be adopted by someone looking for a close and bonding relationship.

Tra is a staff and volunteer favorite who’s been waiting a long time for her forever person to find her. She LOVES wet food but eats dry as well and is litter box perfect. To meet Tra La La please fill out an Application and email to sanctuary@milofoundation.org & info@milofoundation.org

Age: 3 yrs. 6 mo.  Birthday: 11/2016 (est)
   Weight: Medium (30 - 60 pounds)
   Milo ID: 25932
   Current Location: Milo Point Richmond
FOSTER NOTES 5/5/20 "Layla is a super sweet and loving girl who loves pets and lots of snuggles. Layla is super smart and athletic. She has started to show her playful side as she’s gotten more comfortable. She has a lot of energy and would love a lot of room to run and play. She is very smart and aware of her surroundings. Layla is an anxious girl and I’ve noticed can be a little timid around men, but as soon as she gets some calm pets and loves it’s all over and she is melting. It has taken a week for her to feel more comfortable and calm with me. She is very aware of her surroundings and was nervous about the city sounds at first. She can be spooked easily. Layla is a stubborn and sassy girl who is not afraid to let you know when she doesn’t like something. She is afraid of things with wheels that go like skateboards, scooters, and bikes and can growl or bark as they pass. She has shown some leash aggression with other dogs but seems like she just wants to say hi and play. Layla is smart and motivated. She is more relaxed hiking on trails than walking around the city but is starting to feel more comfortable walking around town. With some consistency and trust her anxiety would decrease. I think with a little time she would strongly bond with her owner and be an amazing loyal companion."

*Foster Notes* 4/4/20 "Layla was very sweet and playful after a long walk. Gives very gentle kisses. Loves wrestling with people. She needs help on leash as she does pull when she shes dogs. Is fearful of trucks."

Layla is an active, outgoing, athletic and super smart. Layla wants to please, she is charming, bright, engaged and ready to learn from dog savvy people with the time and devotion for a companion dog that is ready to roll!! She needs daily exercise. Ideally off-leash running - she is a great trail dog.

She is a super athletic champion in the making, and an excellent ranch dog running with four-wheel work vehicles, great recall, fast on her feet and super agile! Layla is full of intrigue, impulse (though her impulses can be controlled) she is enthusiastic, athletic and eager to take part, learn and love with outgoing people eager to have their dog be an important part of their life!!

Layla is smart and can find a way out of many fences or gates... so she needs a secure high fence or to be indoors or crated when her people aren't home, she would follow people down the driveway and away if not contained! She so wants to be included in all adventures and activities.

Layla is alpha with other females but is fine with them out and about as long as there is space and action - on leash she likely would be more testy - she runs with a pack and the four-wheelers at the sanctuary as long as there is a direction, a mission, she is great - she will wrestle and play chase with the best of them! Loves water. Smiley happy girl.

Layla is not great with livestock.

Layla comes with a 20 day get acquainted period with her adoption, time to adjust to new surroundings. Please give time and patience to new adoptees, particularly dogs from the Milo Sanctuary.

JACKSON

   Breed: German Shepherd Dog Mix
   Gender: Male
Age: 11 yrs. 4 mo.  Birthday: 1/2009 (est)
   Weight: Large (60 - 90 pounds)
   Milo ID: 24534
   Current Location: Milo Point Richmond
Jackson is quiet and mellow, he would be content to spend his days lounging around the house with his person in between walks around the neighborhood. He keeps clean and is house-trained, and though initially frightened, has gotten used to hardwood floors and is mellow in the home. A house with carpet and a low-key, predictable family environment would be best for him. He loves going on walks, and he really LOVES playing with toys, especially squeaky balls, though one has to be very careful as he jumps and grabs the ball when playing fetch - thus using a second or third ball to motivate him to drop is best - he has hurt a couple people grabbing for the ball! In his prior foster home, he hoarded toys and balls creating a whole nest of toys. He will resource guard toys, so you cannot take a toy from him.

Ask us about this mellow fellow who walks well on leash and wants to please, wants to have a big dog bed in a home to lounge in. He should be only dog in household.

Jackson's Adoption fee is sliding scale, $250-$400.

   Name: CECE
CECE
More Photos
Breed: Australian Cattle Dog - Shepherd Mix
   Gender: Female
Age: 10 yrs. 7 mo.  Birthday: 10/2009 (est)
   Weight: Medium (30 - 60 pounds)
   Milo ID: 19460
   Current Location: Milo Point Richmond
*Foster Notes* 4/21/20 "Cece is an amazing dog. She is super playful, happy, cuddly, intelligent, and a great companion. In the mornings, when she has to pee, she wakes you up quietly by putting her face in your face - no sounds, just a smiling Cece to wake up to. She is in love with fetch, and I've honestly never met a dog that so consistently runs to get the ball, and returns it right at your feet.

She loves to be involved in family activities, from laying around in the bedroom patiently, to going on runs/hikes, or poking her head into the bathroom to say hello. She can also be left alone at home, and will patiently sleep awaiting our return without barking or making any mess. Within the 2 weeks that we've had her, she has already learned how to paw, and is very well potty-trained (she can really hold it in!). She has really good recall, is amazing off-leash (will come if you call her name, even if there's a ball involved), and is not greedy. She will treat anyone kindly, but is especially warm and loving once you've spent some time with her.

It's hard to believe she's 10 years old, as she has the energy of a much younger dog. We have a small cockapoo at home, and despite the barking/provocation from the small dog, she is mainly patient and basically ignores him.

Cece has trouble with grooming, and will react aggressively if you try to clean her paws. We suspect that she may have experienced some trauma associated with grooming, or in general as a child. She is also jumpy at loud noises, or particular strangers when we take her out on city walks. Because of this, and because she can get very excited to play fetch, she can be strong on leash on busy streets. However, after she's played a good round of fetch, or is tired from exercising, she is great on the leash.

We think it would be ideal for Cece to live in a quieter area, with a backyard. However, we live in the dead center of San Francisco, but we are very active and love to go to parks, and we think Cece has really enjoyed this as well. We would recommend that Cece is adopted by someone who is a strong owner that is willing to assert themselves, as she is an alpha dog. If you are an active owner, looking for a playful, loving, cuddly, loyal companion, Cece's your girl!"

*Foster Notes* 10/17/17 "Cece loves balls! Great on hikes and with all people. Became a little controlling of me but that is common for this breed."

Cece is an alpha girl that is for sure. Fine as an only dog - she was at least fine with cats, but at this point in her life having lived at our sanctuary we can not be certain of that! Nor certain she is still okay with a small dog that is not an instigator or challenge too, but simplest to say she is great as an only dog with exercise needs etc - she can go to dog parks and on trails, be around dogs - but needs a handler who can be aware of her alpha tendencies and act accordingly - she will do anything for the ball and follow her person anywhere.... She is strong on leash - but with proper activity levels and lots of ball time (she is the absolute best ball dog, dropping it at your feet every time - and, she's fast!) She is fine and will follow her person / her ball/chuck-it anywhere! She loves riding in the car and is an affectionate companion.

Cece is a good dog looking for a great home! She doesn't do well with "Veterinary restraint", i.e. blood draws and such. She doesn't like being held down, or approached from the rear. She doesn't like grooming or nail trims. For these reasons we are suggesting an adult, dog-savvy, active home for her.

Previous foster notes: "We've only had Cece a short time, but so far she has been wonderfully sweet and affectionate. She is very approachable and trusting around people and other dogs, no food-aggressive or destructive tendencies observed, and she has previously been around cats with no reported issues. More than anything else, she loves to play ball and will try to engage anyone who can give her some attention. Able to catch a ball mid-air, she will bring it right back to your feet for another throw. A beautiful girl with distinctive markings and an athletic build, she will be best suited for an active household or family that can provide her with a daily routine and lots of ball time."

Cece comes with a 20 day get acquainted period with her adoption, time to adjust to her new surroundings. Please give time and patience to new adoptees, particularly dogs from the Milo Sanctuary.

Breed: Australian Cattle Dog - Terrier Mix
   Gender: Male
Age: 13 yrs. 4 mo.  Birthday: 1/2007 (est)
   Weight: Medium (30 - 60 pounds)
   This dog has special needs.
   Milo ID: 12848
   Current Location: Milo Point Richmond
*Foster Notes* "We love Max!

Maxfield is a gentle, sweet dog. Easy on leash, good with other animals. He is definitely mature, in his golden years. Loved hikes. He seems to have some arthritis, usual aches and pains upon standing. He likes to be close, cuddled and brushed. Would be great with a mature family or household. A wonderful companion."

Sanctuary Update: Maxfield has come a long way with his trust and is a personal favorite of the Sanctuary Manager. He is a very loving boy and highly bonding boy who would love a low key and predictable home of his own. He can get along very well with many dogs and is doing beautifully with meeting and learning to trust new people. It has actually been many years now since he has had any issues and needs only to have his new potential friends give him some time without feeling cornered, and in no time he is giving them hugs. Given that he has bitten in the past, and we know that he needs time and specific introductions, he truly does need a rural home, and we are holding out hope that we will find him that special someone! Former Bio: SHOULD THIS FACE BE ON A POSTER OR WHAT!!! Agile MAXFIELD adores water . . . and a jet stream of water from a hose makes him dance and squeal with delight. BUT, he has both predictable and unpredictable fear responses to sudden approaches by both dogs and humans and lacks bite inhibition. WHY? This very handsome young fellow is recovering from past abuses including major teasing and taunting from kids in the neighborhood where the woman who rescued him lived. So - teenage boys and perhaps men in general are not going to be Maxfield's strong suit or area of comfort for awhile - but he is resilient and already relaxing considerably more compared to his arrival. He has a very smiley appearance and wants to be happy!!

With enough time and space to get acquainted and the ability to observe and freedom of movement, he adjusts quite well - he is also very responsive to commands, and smart!

Maxfield is only suitable for ADULT ONLY homes with very savvy dog handlers, who know and love herding breed types, and who want to take up the challenges of his fear aggression and lack of bite inhibition.
